Navigating Article 6.4 Registration & Issuance: From Host Country Authorization to Global Market Readiness

Thursday, 5 June, 2025 @ 09:00 - 12:00 WIB

Free

Objectives

Facilitated by our in-house carbon market expert, Jeremy Buhain, this workshop aims to enhance a deeper understanding of step-by-step process for project developers to register their projects, secure host country authorization, and successfully navigate the issuance of A6.4ERs. It also seeks to illuminate the interplay between host country registries and the international registry, outlining strategies to enhance project integrity and readiness for international transactions.

Background

The Paris Agreement’s Article 6.4 establishes a global carbon crediting mechanism that allows the generation of high-integrity, internationally recognized carbon credits known as A6.4 Emission Reductions (A6.4ERs). Building upon previous sessions, which focused on Project Design Documents (PDD) and the processes of validation and verification, this session will shift the focus to project registration, the issuance of Article 6.4 Emission Reductions (A6.4ERs), and the national and international registries that ensure transparency and integrity in carbon credit transactions. For carbon project developers, a comprehensive understanding of the registration and issuance process under Article 6.4 is essential to ensure project eligibility, credit integrity, and readiness for participation in international carbon markets.

Navigating this process at the international level involves ensuring compliance with the rigorous standards established by the Article 6.4 Supervisory Body. These standards are designed to uphold the environmental integrity and credibility of carbon projects by requiring thorough assessments of project additionality, baseline methodologies, and sustainable development contributions. An essential component of this international process is the integration of national registries with the international Article 6.4 Registry. This integration enables seamless tracking of emission reductions, ensures consistency and reliability of data, and plays a vital role in avoiding double counting across borders. Aligning with these international processes and standards is critical for project developers to participate confidently in global carbon markets and to contribute meaningfully to international climate mitigation efforts.
