This unit explores how countries can leverage Article 6 to support long-term climate and development goals, including NDC implementation and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) financing. It begins by framing the importance of aligning Article 6 activities with national development priorities and introduces the Article 6 Financing Trilemma—the challenge of balancing climate change impact, sustainable development impact, and financial viability in scaled-up cooperation.

A key component of the unit is the Article 6 Selection Criteria Toolkit, a practical decision-support tool designed to help policymakers identify high-impact Article 6 activities aligned with long-term financing and SDG objectives. Through a series of instructional videos, the unit walks participants through the toolkit’s application at both the country and activity levels. This includes assessing a country’s SDG and GHG profiles, evaluating activity attractiveness, and prioritizing activity types. At the activity level, the toolkit supports the design and assessment of Article 6 activities based on alignment with national priorities and market potential.

This unit equips government officials with the tools and frameworks to strategically engage in Article 6 while ensuring long-term climate and development benefits.
