Transition Credits are a new and emerging approach to incentivize the early phase-out of coal power. Southeast Asia is the focal point for the trialling of transition credits, with an initial pilot project in the Philippines and several other countries in the region showing interest. There are currently multiple standards and policy frameworks being developed, all within the context of a global push for higher integrity within the voluntary carbon market. What is the potential for Transition Credits in the region? Can integrity be guaranteed without undermining market potential? What role for the Just Transition in this process? This panel of esteemed experts working at the ‘coal face’ of transition credits will explore these questions at a critical moment in their development.
