Background
The oil and gas industry plays a central role in global energy supply, while simultaneously accounting for a significant share of global greenhouse gas emissions. As governments, financial institutions, and stakeholders strengthen climate commitments, the industry faces growing pressure to reduce emissions while maintaining energy security and economic viability.
Decarbonization in the oil and gas sector involves addressing emissions across the full value chain, including methane management, energy efficiency improvements, electrification, carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), and integration of low-carbon and renewable energy solutions. At the same time, companies must navigate evolving regulatory frameworks, investor expectations, and disclosure requirements related to climate risk and transition planning.
This workshop will provide a structured overview of low-carbon pathways available to the oil and gas industry, highlighting both near-term measures and longer-term transition strategies.
