SUMMARY:Carbon Markets at COP29: What to expect
DESCRIPTION:Objectives\nThis workshop aims to explore expectations for COP29 discussions regarding the carbon market\, delving into anticipated outcomes\, potential policy shifts\, and emerging opportunities for market participants. \nBackground\nThe upcoming UN climate summit\, COP29\, will be held in Baku\, Azerbaijan\, from November 11 to November 22\, 2024\, focusing on enhancing climate finance to urgently support vulnerable countries and communities. The expectation is that a New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance (NCQG)will be agreed at this COP. Furthermore\, this conference will serve as a critical moment for global leaders to reaffirm and strengthen their national climate commitments while making progress on previous pledges. Progress is also expected for carbon markets. Although countries did not reach a complete consensus on the Article 6 rules during COP28\, there were advancements in establishing shared understanding\, including the formation of the Supervisory Body for the newly named Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism (PACM). COP29 will also mark a significant milestone in implementing the Paris Agreement’s enhanced transparency framework\, as countries are expected to submit their inaugural biennial transparency reports (BTRs) by the year’s end\, providing key insights into their climate actions and commitments. \nSpeakers\nKuki Soejachmoen\, Co-Founder & Executive Director\, Indonesia Research Institute for Decarbonization (IRID) \nSarfina Adani\, Consultant\, Neyen \nAgenda\n09.00 – 09.30 Registration and coffee\n09.30 – 09.35 Welcoming remarks\, Sarfina Adani\, Neyen\n09.35 – 09.50 Introduction and outcomes from COP 28\, Sarfina Adani\, Neyen\n10.00 – 10.30 Road to COP29: What to expect from the upcoming COP\, Kuki Soejachmoen\, IRID\n10.30 – 11.15 Q&A\n11.15 – 11.20 Closing and photo session\n11.20 – 12.00 Networking session \nWhen and where?\n7th November\, 09:00 – 12:00 WIB \nWe-work Noble House Kuningan. Meeting room 29D\, access via Floor 30. \nPlease note\, this is an in-person only event. \nWho should attend?\nThis workshop is intended for private sector Project Developers based in Indonesia\, government officials\, NGOs\, and CSOs who are interested in participating in the carbon market or represent local communities with an interest in the Indonesian Carbon Market. \n
