DESCRIPTION:Objectives\nLed by an expert from the World Resources Institute (WRI)\, this session will provide a comprehensive introduction to MRV\, its role in emissions reduction initiatives\, and its alignment with global standards. The discussion will cover key challenges in Indonesia’s MRV implementation\, such as the manual registration system\, the absence of an integrated inventory and reporting mechanism\, and the need for third-party verification to enable participation in the Emissions Trading System (ETS). \nBackground\nAs Indonesia advances its climate commitments and carbon market development\, the role of a robust Measurement\, Reporting\, and Verification (MRV) system becomes increasingly critical. MRV serves as the foundation for ensuring transparency\, credibility\, and compliance in emissions reduction initiatives. It enables project developers to quantify their impact\, facilitates participation in carbon markets\, and aligns Indonesia’s climate policies with global standards. \nCurrently\, Indonesia’s MRV framework faces several challenges\, including manual registration processes\, the absence of an integrated inventory and reporting system\, and limited verification mechanisms. While the national registry system is evolving\, developers and stakeholders still encounter difficulties in navigating verification requirements\, particularly for entry into the Emissions Trading System (ETS) and third-party validation processes. \nAdditionally\, Indonesia’s MRV system has primarily been applied to government-led initiatives\, such as the ProKlim program\, rather than being widely accessible to private sector developers and NGOs. Addressing these gaps is essential for streamlining MRV implementation and fostering greater participation in emissions reduction efforts. \nThis workshop will introduce Indonesia’s MRV system\, explore its current architecture\, key challenges\, and opportunities for improvement\, and discuss how project developers can effectively engage in the system to meet national and global standards.
