SUMMARY:Driving the Shift: CNG Conversion for Low-Carbon\, Sustainable Transport
DESCRIPTION:Objectives\nThis workshop session seeks to bring together stakeholders—government\, industry\, community groups\, and consumers—to explore the opportunities\, challenges\, and strategies for scaling up CNG vehicle conversion as a just\, practical\, and sustainable energy transition pathway. \nBackground\nThe rising cost of fuel (BBM) and the climate commitment in Indonesia has sparked growing interest in alternative energy sources for transportation. While electric vehicles (EVs) have gained attention for their low emissions\, they remain costly to purchase and subsidized through tax incentives like VAT reduction. In contrast\, vehicle conversion to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)\, a type of BBG (gas fuel) is not a new technology—it has been available as an alternative for existing vehicles since before electric vehicles launched in the market \, yet it remains underutilized among the public due to limited awareness\, lack of certified workshops\, and concerns about maintenance and spare parts. \nEnvironmental tests show that CNG vehicles produce significantly lower CO₂ emissions and only trace levels of methane compared to conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Additionally\, CNG cylinders can last up to 20 years\, offering a long and reliable service life. \nA growing community of over 400 CNG vehicle users is actively promoting awareness and establishing official service centers and standardized spare parts. However\, broader adoption still faces challenges in public education\, after-sales service\, and policy support. \nSpeakers\nAlvianni Nur Mahmudah\, Consultant\, Neyen \nGuest speakers: \nAndy Lala\, Leader\, Komunitas Mobil Gas (KOMOGAS) \nAdi Manalu\, PGN \nAgenda\n09.00 – 09.30 Registration and coffee\n09.30 – 09.35 Welcoming remarks\, Neyen\n09.35 – 09.45 Introduction to CNG Conversion \nWorkshop\n09.45 – 10.25 Driving the Shift: CNG Conversion for Low-Carbon\, Sustainable Transport\, Andy Lala\, Komunitas Mobil Gas and Adi Manalu from PGN\n10.25 – 11.05 Q&A\n11.05 – 11.20 Closing and photo session\n11.20 – 12.00 Networking session \nWhen and where?\n17th April\, 09:00 – 12:00 WIB \nWework Noble House – 29th Floor\, Meeting Room 29D \nPlease note\, this is an in-person only event with limited capacity.
