SUMMARY:Impact of Indonesian regulatory framework on the structuring of ERPAs
DESCRIPTION:Objectives\nThis workshop will delve into ERPAs and share knowledge and understanding of regulatory frameworks impacting the ERPA in the Indonesian context. \nBackground\nEmission Reduction Purchase Agreements (ERPA) serve as legally binding contracts facilitating the delivery of verified carbon credits from one party to another. These agreements lay the foundation for carbon trading and include pre-negotiated terms around the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. A critical aspect of ERPAs is that the contract binds both parties to specific commitments\, including the volume of emissions reduced\, the financing terms\, and performance metrics that trigger payments. Usually\, ERPAs cover multiple years and payments are made at regular intervals based on verified and reported outcomes. This can also be seen in Indonesia\, where the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has signed an Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement (ERPA) with the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF)\, opening up the opportunity for Indonesia to receive USD 110 million and reduce 22 million tons of CO2e. Given the long-term nature and binding nature of these agreements\, it is essential to understand more about the structure of ERPAs from legal perspectives. \nSpeakers\n\nPatia Chairunisa\, Associate\, UMBRA Strategic Legal Solutions\nMichelle Angely\, Associate\, UMBRA Strategic Legal Solutions\nSarfina Adani\, Consultant\, Neyen\n\nAgenda\n09.00 – 09.30 Registration and coffee\n09.30 – 09.35 Welcoming remarks\, Sarfina Adani\, Neyen\n09.35 – 09.50 ERPA Introduction\, Sarfina Adani\, Neyen\n10.00 – 10.30 Impact of Indonesian regulatory framework on structuring of ERPA\, Patia Chairunisa & Michelle Angely\, UMBRA\n10.30 – 11.15 Q&A\n11.15 – 11.20 Closing and photo session\n11.20 – 12.00 Networking session \nWhen and where?\n10th October\, 09:00 – 12:00 WIB \nWeWork Revenue Tower – 25th Floor\, Meeting Room 25A \nPlease note\, this is an in-person only event. \nWho is this for?\nThis workshop is intended for private sector Project Developers based in Indonesia\, government officials\, CSOs\, and Industry who are interested in participating in the carbon market or represent local communities with an interest in the Indonesian Carbon Market.

SUMMARY:Integrating communities into the project development process: Case Study
DESCRIPTION:Objectives\nThis workshop aims to share knowledge and insights on how a renowned project developer integrates community development into their projects. \nBackground\nRimba Raya\, a 36\,000-hectare peat swamp in Central Kalimantan that is also the world’s largest privately funded orangutan sanctuary\, is the first project to register to the Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard (SD VISta). Registration under SD VISta enables projects to assess and report the sustainable development benefits they generate directly against the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Aiming to avoid the destruction of forest representing more than 130 million tonnes of carbon\, while ensuring a high-quality carbon projects\, they develop livelihood programs in surrounding villages advance all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These programs provide education\, employment and hope for the future while increasing the standard of living and promoting gender equality. \nSpeakers\nDr. Sylviana Andhella\, B.DM\, M.B.A\, CPHCM\, Executive Director\, PT Rimba Raya Conservation \nSarfina Adani\, Consultant\, Neyen \nAgenda\n09.00 – 09.30 Registration and coffee\n09.30 – 09.35 Welcoming remarks\, Sarfina Adani\, Neyen\n09.35 – 09.50 Introduction to Benefits Sharing\, Sarfina Adani\, Neyen\n10.00 – 10.30 Integrating communities into the project development process: A Case Study\, Dr. Sylviana Andhella\n10.30 – 11.15 Q&A\n11.15 – 11.20 Closing and photo session\n11.20 – 12.00 Networking session \nWhen and where?\n17th October\, 09:00 – 12:00 WIB \nWe-work Noble House Kuningan\, Room 29D. SUMMARY:Free\, Prior\, and Informed Consent (FPIC): Towards Carbon Project Integrity
DESCRIPTION:Objectives\nThis workshop aims to highlight the importance of FPIC and share the speaker’s experience in managing and implementing this principle. \nBackground\nFree\, Prior\, and Informed Consent (FPIC) is a critical principle and legal norm designed to safeguard the collective rights of indigenous peoples\, particularly their right to self-determination\, consultation\, and participation in decisions that directly affect their lands\, resources\, and communities. At its core\, FPIC ensures that indigenous peoples are actively involved in the design\, implementation\, and decision-making processes of any projects that may impact them\, especially concerning lands and resources. Given its importance\, FPIC has become an internationally recognized mandate\, specifically in the context of REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) initiatives. High-quality carbon projects also recognize and integrate FPIC as one of key components. This creates a foundation for meaningful partnerships with local and indigenous communities\, fostering a lasting legacy of respect and collaboration. \nSpeakers\nErlinda Ekaputri\, Wildlife Works Indonesia\nSarfina Adani\, Consultant\, Neyen \nAgenda\n09.00 – 09.30 Registration and coffee\n09.30 – 09.35 Welcoming remarks\, Sarfina Adani (TBC)\, Neyen\n09.35 – 09.50 Introduction to FPIC\, Sarfina Adani\, Neyen\n10.00 – 10.30 Free\, Prior\, and Informed Consent: Towards Carbon Project Integrity\, Erlinda Ekaputri\n10.30 – 11.15 Q&A\n11.15 – 11.20 Closing and photo session\n11.20 – 12.00 Networking session \nWhen and where?\n24th October\, 09:00 – 12:00 WIB \nWe-work Noble House Kuningan. SUMMARY:Getting ready for the carbon market: common pitfalls in the validation and verification of projects
DESCRIPTION:Objectives\nDrawing on international examples\, this workshop will take a Case Study approach to looking at the common pitfalls of the validation and verification of carbon projects. It will present the most common pitfalls by project developers that can lead to delays in project validation/verification\, significant differences between modeled emissions reduction and those finally certified or even the project not being eligible under a carbon program. The session will highlight best practices from around the world to enhance project developer’s readiness for the expected opening of the Indonesian carbon market to international trade. \nBackground\nFrom the first carbon project registered back in 2004\, a municipal waste-to-energy project in Brazil under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol\, the carbon market has seen how between twenty and thirty percent of the estimated project emissions reductions ex-ante could not be verified ex-post. Some project types reach a fifty percent deviation. This leads to significant financial losses for the project developer and to a lower mitigation impact than expected. \nThese issues highlight the complexities of the development of carbon projects\, raising the need for deeper understanding and better practices. To explore these challenges\, this workshop will take a case studies approach. A pioneer in carbon project validation and verification and author of several publications on best practices for carbon project development\, Miguel Rescalvo\, will showcase the common pitfalls in the design and implementation of carbon projects. The session will focus on how to overcome these obstacles and highlight best practices from around the world\, preparing project developers for the expected opening of Indonesia’s carbon market to international trade. \nSpeakers\nMiguel Rescalvo\, Managing Partner\, Neyen\nSarfina Adani\, Consultant\, Neyen \nAgenda\n09.00 – 09.30 Registration and coffee\n09.30 – 09.35 Welcoming remarks\, Sarfina Adani\, Neyen\n09.35 – 09.50 Introduction to PDD and interactive session\, Sarfina Adani\, Neyen\n10.00 – 10.30 Common pitfalls in the validation and verification of projects\, Miguel Rescalvo\, Neyen\n10.30 – 11.15 Q&A\n11.15 – 11.20 Closing and photo session\n11.20 – 12.00 Networking session \nWhen and where?\n31st October\, 09:00 – 12:00 WIB \nWe-work Noble House Kuningan.
