SUMMARY:COP29: Outcome and opportunities for the international carbon market
DESCRIPTION:Objectives\nThis workshop will explore the results of the COP29 negotiations in the area of the carbon market\, delving into outcomes\, agreement and additional guidance on the Artice 6 rulebook\, and emerging opportunities for market participants. \nBackground\nIn November 2024\, the world’s attention turned to Baku\, Azerbaijan\, where COP29 brought together leaders\, experts\, and negotiators to tackle some of the most pressing climate challenges. At COP28\, efforts to finalize the rules for Article 6 of the Paris Agreement—crucial for international carbon markets—ended in deadlock. However\, in Baku an agreement was finally reached to fully operationalize Article 6 providing additional guidance on Article 6.2 and Article 6.4 after many years of negotiations to unlock international carbon markets. \nThis breakthrough will provide for high-quality and transparent carbon markets through which countries and companies can work together to meet their climate goals. It is estimated that Article 6 can save as much as $250 billion per year in implementation of national climate plans (NDCs) through cross-border cooperation. \nSpeakers\nKuki Soejachmoen\, Co-Founder & Executive Director\, Indonesia Research Institute for Decarbonization (IRID) \nSarfina Adani\, Consultant\, Neyen \nAgenda\n09.00 – 09.30 Registration and coffee\n09.30 – 09.35 Welcoming remarks\, Sarfina Adani\, Neyen\n09.35 – 09.50 Introduction to COP 29\, Sarfina Adani\, Neyen\n10.00 – 10.30 COP29: Article 6 outcome and the resulting opportunity for international carbon markets\, Kuki Soejachmoen\, IRID\n10.30 – 11.15 Q&A\n11.15 – 11.20 Closing and photo session\n11.20 – 12.00 Networking session \nWhen and where?\n4th December\, 09:00 – 12:00 WIB \nWe-work Noble House Kuningan. Meeting room 29D\, access via Floor 30. \nPlease note\, this is an in-person only event. \nWho should attend?\nThis workshop is intended for private sector Project Developers based in Indonesia\, government officials\, NGOs\, and CSOs who are interested in participating in the carbon market or represent local communities with an interest in the Indonesian Carbon Market.
